HOA has requested everyone to submit documents proving immigration status of everyone living here.

Location: New York.

They say it is to comply with "US federal laws" and failure to do so will result in the property and residents being reported to ICE and a potential fine.

So, is there such a law that requires HOAs to become immigration officers? And secondly, do we need to just comply? It seems ridiculous.
