I'm in Oregon
A bit ago I was subpoenaed to testify on behalf of a senior resident of the retirement home I work at. The senior has had several violet reactions including near heart attacks, to their conservator.
First of all, it's against my company policy to, "get involved in resident's lives". So I talked with the resident and the advice I gave was, "you should talk to a lawyer".
And she did, but she asked me to be there for the conversation. I said yes, and I was there in the room. This may have been a mistake, but this is one of those things that's against the rules while the right thing to do. I began telling the lawyer the violent reactions they had in response to the resident's conservator.
That's when I got subpoenaed as a witness. In court I told the truth about my relationship with the resident and everything I witnessed.
The resident won the case. While I was off work the conservator I testified against called my boss asking questions about me and asking about my relationship with the resident. The conservator then went on to tell my boss that I lied in court and I was never subpeonaed.
But now I'm afraid I might lose my job and I might be charged with perjury because I was a key witness that took away this conservators income.
