I've been blackmailed and it's throttled my ability to live. I have reliable witnesses and clear evidence, how rare is it for these cases to work?

In AB, Canada.

Someone that I know used their real name, social media, and established e-mail address to demand that I a) give them money, b) explain to everyone that I was "lying about them", and c) come in contact with this person (I was ignoring their posts/e-mails/calls, etc). If I did not comply with these demands, then they would do their best to discredit my business and credentials, alienate me from friends and family, publish a book about all the negative things in my life along with a list of damaging lies (where I have legal, physical, substantial proof that these are all lies), and attack my husband and his family (with claims of child molestation).

I also have evidence where this person attempted to spread damaging information to my family members about me, personally, in an attempt to get their support away from me.

My witnesses include university professors, dean of admissions, my employer, my pastor, multiple friends and family, and the RCMP, to prove that I am telling the truth. I have e-mails, text messages, and social media posts from this person. I have bank statements that show that my work suffered along with, as I said, I very understanding employer and landlord. I also have a restraining order that was served by police against this person, without notice.

Is this something I should pursue?

Edit: is this something I should pursue civilly, rather. It caused some pretty rough cuts financially plus the cost of getting the RO
