I’ll start here, we recently loss my 11 yo sister and my company offers 3 payed bereavement days. I spoke with management and they told me that I get 3 days to use to go home for the funeral and that they didn’t have to be consecutive. So I submitted the 3 days for Thursday-Saturday (March 28th-30th). The days were approved by management on workday, which is the app we use to request time off, etc. The days were approved and therefore I went home to California (I work in Arizona) this past weekend to attend the viewing and funeral services. I got an email yesterday (April 1st) stating that my time off was being corrected. I went and checked the workday app and they essentially deleted my Saturday bereavement day and took away those 8 hours. So essentially now I only get paid for 2 days instead of the 3 that had already been approved. I worked this evening and asked one of my managers why my day got deleted. Essentially she told me that it was deleted by payroll because it would put me over 40 hours this past week. I do not want to cause issues at work especially since I still work there and do not want to burn bridges with management. But this is not right! It’s wrong to advertise 3 bereavement days to your employees, approve the days, and then days later take it back and delete one of those days in order to not pay them for it. I work again today and plan on speaking with the center manager about this because it’s simply not right to do this. Especially when it comes to bereavement days, I lost my sister and I just feel like this is extremely disrespectful especially during a difficult time like this. I plan on speaking with him today and hopefully getting the issue resolved. But if I am told by him that I won’t get paid for that 3rd day what should I do? What are my options here?
