I had an on again off again girlfriend for a year. We ended it abruptly after she discovered I was having lunch with an old classmate.
It really was just a lunch, but I know I’ll never convince her of that.
This was 4 years ago. She seemed to disappear from the state which was surprising because she had a good job and a lot of friends here. But whatever, I didn’t care.
Long story short I got drunk and curious and I started a new social media account to look at her accounts she blocked me on. She has a three year old daughter who looks exactly like me.
I confronted her, she confessed that it is my child. I told her I wanted to see my daughter. I wanted partial custody. It’s my kid. I want to be involved in her life.
She’s single. My daughter is growing up without a father. She might get remarried down the line, but there is no reason my daughter should live without a father in the meantime. Not to mention, I’m financially very steady and ready to pay child support. She’s working a profoundly low paying job and from what I can discern online is relying partially on her parents. I want my daughter to have access to the best health insurance, a good school, I want her being driven in a safe car.
I told my ex this, that I wanted to be involved. She said she didn’t want to deal with a custody schedule and didn’t want her daughter to spend a lot of time out of state. I told her I could move, but it would take some time (I have two years left on my contract and would have to make inroads in finding another job.) My ex won’t accept any money because, as she’s made quite clear, she does not want me in her life. She says her brother is enough of a male presence in her/our daughter’s life. I call bull. Uncles and other father figures are great and important but they’ll never be the same as the actual, singularly dedicated dad.
She said she thought it would be simpler if I just stayed out of it. I told her that’s not an option and I want a paternity test and a custody hearing if it’s positive. She said no to both and blocked my number and new social media accounts.
I could tell her from page what state she’s living in but other than that I don’t know her address.
The baby was most likely born in Wyoming, where she’s living and appears to have extended family. The baby was conceived in Virginia and I am currently a resident of the District of Columbia.
