Booking Agency did not inform us or a flight cancellation they knew of 6 months ago until we were half way around the world trying to connect

My family just got off the phone with the management of lookupfare.com, the booking agency that sold us a flight from LAX to Rome with a connect in Vienna. Now that we are in Vienna we were told our flight doesn't exist. The Airline provided documents that they had formally notified the booking company several months before our flight. After a while of refusing to send written confirmation of their intent to cover and travel costs or compensation the Airline rep asked for the phone. At this point the airline rep proceeded to inform the booking company angrily of their responsibility to us as customers and of the documented correspondence. The booking company essentially told us there was nothing they'd do The airline assumed temporary responsibility out of kindness. Is there anyway we can pursue the booking company to hold them accountable. I live in the US.
