[California] Armed Guard Being Ordered to Carry Off-Duty

Hello. I'll try to be brief.

I am a BSIS licensed security guard in California with an exposed firearm permit that allows me to carry a firearm if (and only if) I am performing my duties as a security guard.

I have a stationary post and am considered on-duty only when I enter the facility.

This post does not have a dedicated "gear up" area nor a bullet barrel where we can load our weapon. As a result my manager has ordered me to load my weapon and don my duty belt at home and wear them while driving to my post.

My belief is that it is illegal for me to carry my firearm while driving because I am not performing the duties of my license. I suspect my manager is trying to shift this from a matter of company liability (if there is an accident while gearing up on property) versus personal liability (wearing a firearm where I should not.)

I am attempting to get this policy in writing, but I suspect my manager will refuse.
