Florida
I am a member of a new sport shooting club. One of our requirements to be a member is that you must legally be able to purchase and own a firearm.
We have someone that wants to join that states he has a sketchy background and he cannot legally purchase a new firearm from a dealer. He states that he can legally own a firearm and that he has been pulled over by LEO while in possession of firearms and has always been checked and let go.
I do not understand how someone could legally own a firearm if they cannot legally purchase the firearm through a dealer. So I am asking if there is something in the law that I am not aware of that would allow this individual to own a firearm, but not purchase it through a dealer?
I will be presenting the same question to an attorney on Monday during business hours, I was just curious if someone here could answer this to give me something to think about while I wait for Monday.
Thank you
