So about a month ago I got into a fight with someone we'll call longboard douche (LD for short). I was walking on my way to class on a high foot traffic sidewalk when he knocked me over. The sidewalk was packed at the time and he was apparently yelling at people to move when he rode through. I had earbuds in and didn't hear him and he slammed into me knocking us both over.
I got extremely mad at him and ended up arguing with him. The university I go to has a rule saying that students are not supposed to ride things like longboards on campus so I ended up taking his board and calling campus police. He began to threaten to get physical with me when I refused to give it back and other students had to get involved and hold him back.
When the campus police showed up they took both of our statements and had me hand over the longboard to them. He got aggressive with them in the end and was given multiple citations from them. I was not injured and nothing of mine was damaged so at first I had no plans to do anything but the police asked me if I wanted to submit a complaint against him to the university which I happily agreed to.
I thought that was the end of it but a few weeks ago LD's mom added me on facebook and began to chew me out. Apparently LD got kicked out for this. He was already on academic probation and my (i will admit, quite spiteful and scathing) complaint was the tipping point and the university kicked him out and banned him from university property. She began to harass me over facebook, twitter, and every social media she could find, Eventually LD joined in too and sent me multiple texts harassing me and is saying I should "watch myself incase he gets mad enough". He also got my home phone number and called my dad to tell me he's been sleeping with me and that i'm a whore.
Along with this harassment, the both of them have been threatening to sue me for his spent tuition over the two years he went to university plus "emotion damage" and libel for my complaint. I didn't think they were serious but today I revived a letter from a lawyer saying that i'm being sued! The letter says that the family of LD are suing me for over half a million dollars and I should be prepared.
What can I do? I'm actually pretty scared right now and don't know what to do. My dad is furious right now. He says he's going to go to the police with this letter and the texts but if i'm being sued is that a bad option? Like, if we get the police involved will this make me look bad in court. Should I get a lawyer? Thanks.
