I'm an artist who did some design work for an independent movie and now they won't pay me.

Hi LA, you are my favorite sub, My problem is: I am an artist who lives in southern Louisiana, who did some design work for a movie production company in Mississippi and they will not pay me. Most movies have an LLC and they do. It's not a lot of money for me (under $1000.00) however, they have big name talent who I know don't work cheap. I don't have a contract with them, I was hired by an art director who I have a good relationship with but they can't help me. I do have emails from the production team saying they will pay me but they are ignoring me at this point. I think I could sue in small claims court but I'd have to travel to Mississippi to do so. On larger movies I always have to sign an artist release. I never signed an artist release on this movie. I know they are shopping the movie to online streaming services. Can I inform the streaming companies that the movie company did not pay me and my artwork is not use-able? Can they sue me if I disrupt a deal they're trying to make? Thanks for the advice!
