Throw away because I think he uses Reddit.
So the last few months were pretty rough but lets get this through.
I am a junior in a local college here in New Jersey. I am on the school soccer team (walk on so nothing big here) , the team has a player (lets call him Charles) who is a total asshole. I mean anything you say he will put you down for. He is majoring in something super difficult and constantly makes fun of the other players and their easier majors. Charles dated this girl sophomore year then after meeting me broke up with Charles to be with me. Although she never said it, it is pretty obvious that Charles was physically and emotionally abusive. She constantly asks if it is okay to go places or to hangout with friends and presents her phone to me every week for me to "inspect it for anything that I wouldn't like". It took a long time for me to change her into a normal human being and that she can be herself.
This abuse from Charles continued for a few weeks into the semester but, I am a pretty vocal guy so whenever Charles makes a rude comment to me I always retort back. Unfortunately one incident tipped him off the edge. I was in the locker room and a team mate told me that Charles was talking smack about me. I preceded to make a comment about him and his ex. I wont really go into it because the comment requires some back knowledge. Lets just say that Charles did not like this. After texting me privately saying how this was an attack on him and I had no right to poke fun at his relationships. He then pressured my other team mates into telling him where I was at that time and went to go get me. He then found me outside the cafeteria and grabbed me from behind and began choking me. After screaming from other people around some people managed to pull him off me. The cops were called and I was escorted into the police station.
I gave a statement and a case number. The officer said it was right in front of a camera so it would be a pretty easy court case. I then filed a complaint and waited for the court date. In the mean time I was certain he would be kicked off the team. After weeks of an "investigation" by the school it was deemed that we were both in the wrong and rather than putting files on both of our records we just resolve this with a no contact order. The school board was never notified as the dean of students decided that this was a case that is just for him and his assistant. One of the most sickening quotes that I distinctly remember is him saying "would we dismiss a student from a team or from this school for cheating?" Like excuse me but cheating is not on the same magnitude as an assault on another student. He was ultimately "punished" with a 2 week suspension and optional anger management.
I really felt like that was off but I didn't do anything because I would just get him in court. Upon the hearing I was notified that the subpoena to acquire the video from the school failed as the video was deleted. The students that I called to make a statement also suddenly pulled out. The prosecutor told me that at best I could get anger management time from Charles but since its just a hear say case there is nothing that can happen. Is this the end of the road for me? Is there any action that I can take against Charles or the school or am I just supposed to forget that this happened?
